Merino Cashmere Angora Mix
This is a blend of the first and second shearing of the Australian merino lamb; together with the finest underfleece from the Mongolian Cashmere goat, and the down of Angora rabbits. By using only the 'wools' from the youngest animals, we create a mix that is both light in weight and exceptionally soft.
The underfleece and down are hand combed out in the spring, whilst the sheep are sheared with care on the farm. The 'wools' are then washed and blended together to allow us to create a garment for you of exquisite softness and warmth.
Merino Angora Mix
This is an unusual blend of Australian merino wool together with the down of Angora rabbits. Merino sheep produce both longer and finer wool than other breeds. This means that the wool is as warm as other breeds but far lighter in weight. In the large farms and co-operatives of Australia the sheared wool comes from young animals - generally less than two years old - giving a 'softer feel'. The Angora Rabbit down has very similar properties and is hand combed out from late spring. It is separated by hand from the older hairs - so that only the down (undercoat) is blended with their merino equivalent. This resultant blend creates a luxurious garment of intense softness and warmth.
Merino Lambswool
The wool of garment is comes from Australian Merino sheep. The merino breed is widely acknowledged to grow the longest and finest wool fibre (hair). The climate and size of Australia allow the farmers to achieve consistent high quality fibres. Part of the 'softer feel' one gets is because the wool comes from animals that are sheared less than two years old. This means that although the warmth is comparable with other wools - one is able to achieve a garment that is somewhat lighter, softer and more evenly knitted.
