A History of Cowal Games Tartan

The Cowal Highland Gathering – which takes place on the last weekend of August each year in Dunoon, Argyllshire, on the Firth of Clyde – is the largest, most spectacular Highland Games in the world. Thousands of dancers, pipers, drummers and athletes take part and come to Cowal from all over the world.
In 1994, the Centenary Year of the Gathering, it was decided to identify that landmark by commissioning a new tartan and Lochcarron of Scotland successfully submitted design proposals to the Gathering Board.
The result is a soft-muted tartan in the blues and greens which feature predominantly in the spectacular landscapes of the Cowal peninsula. The tartan is manufactured and wholesaled exclusively by Lochcarron of Scotland.
